What is Cats in Sinks? It's obvious. It's about cats. And kittens. Who like sinks. And basins.
I would submit a photo of Nermal but she is apparently the only kitty on the planet who does not enjoy curling up in the sink.

Muffin was long overdue for a visit to the Vet, so during my trip to MN last week to see Liz and Scott, I had the privilege of accompanying Muffin for her annual checkup. Those of you who are parents to a kitty will understand the difficulties in getting the kitty into her carrier, both physical and emotional. Sometimes I think it is harder on me than it is Nermal, because I feel so guilty trapping her in a little cage!
Step 1: Trap unsuspecting kitty in the three seasons room:
Step 2: Scoop up kitty:
Step 3: Stuff kitty into carrier:
Step 4: Close carrier:
Step 5: Stare mournfully at carrier with kitty cat trapped inside:
Muffin was a real trooper. Liz and I were very proud. We drove to the vet and here is Liz walking her inside:
And here is Muffin being checked in:
Muffin was terrified. She crawled right into the sink:
Muffin was thorougly examined and found to be in pristine condition. Liz and I were so proud of her. She didn't throw up at all when she got home (apparently a first), and settled back into her normal routine within a few days.
And that, my friends, is How To Wrangle A Kitty.

I would like to take this moment to wish a very happy birthday to my special little kitty cat, Pashmina Nermal. As you will recall, Nermal came into our lives exactly 6 years ago today, when Fairy Godmother Margaret and I brought her home from the shelter. You should have all received a birthday announcement from Nermal herself. She is presently sleeping at the foot of the bed but wants to thank you all for the compliments on her card and for helping make her feel so welcome as a beloved pet in the Cow-wow family!
Mreow!

I am testing a new litter box for Nermal. My current apartment is pretty small and there is no good place to put the litter box. The one she has been using for years now is actually a "pod" which is totally round and has a large dome-like cover and little steps leading up to the litter area. It is a pod fit for a princess! Alas the pod takes up too much space so I purchased this revolutionary Clever Cat Litter Box, which 47 out of 48 buyers on Petco.com would recommend (and coincidentally my own flushable "pod" can be seen glistening in the background of the below photo):
The Clever Cat is revolutionary because the kitty jumps down into the litter through a hole in the lid, and then back out again when she is finished. See?!?! I plopped Nerms down in it a couple of times so she would get the idea. I don't think she had to go, but hopefully she will figure it out the next time around. Stay tuned!!

Every now and then Nermal really makes her presence known...my younger sister was visiting this past weekend and when we came home from the movies, we saw that "somebody" (i.e. Nermal) had moved her favorite toy, Purple Hippo, over by Alex's shoe.
Evidence! Evidence that Nermal exists when I am not there to witness her movements! Evidence that she loves Purple Hippo!

Nermal has a new favorite toy named Purple Hippo. See attached photo. I am not sure why she favors him but perhaps he has some sort of catnip tucked away in his little body. I know Nermal loves him because he ended up on the bed yesterday...and the only way he could have gotten there is if she had hopped up on the bed with Purple Hippo in her jaws. And kitties only do that when they love a toy!
